Can you create a folder named "con" in windows?? Also try to create a folder named "nul" you won't be able to. If you are not tired, also try creating folder named “prn“. I hope you could create, oh you could not??? Yes, there is a reason.
This is because “nul”, “prn” and “con” are “special” files in Windows System that are used in maintaining the internal directory structure in the FAT (File Allocation Table). Another undocumented bug of undisclosed source code - OS.Live with these or switch to linux. :-D

Argument list too long - Work Around

I was deleting files by using rm on the linux server. There is a maximum number of files that can be passed as arguments to rm. So it does not allow you remove the files with 'rm' command.

Using rm to delete files is the easiest way adopted by us (linux users). rm is generally used with ease on a daily basis. So what you can do when the simple rm command does not work.

There were around 72K files were generated in a folder which I wanted to delete this morning. So I went to that directory and tried to remove all the files starting with "Count*".

root # rm Count*
/bin/rm: Argument list too long.

No way. The irritating error message appeared.

Not sure what the maximum number of arguments for rm command, may be its 1024 arguments only.

The workaround is simple: Use find to pipe all the matching files to rm, one at a time.
root # find . -name 'Count*' | xargs rm

And this can remove as many files as you want. This work really great!!

I saw this Error E138 while editing some file with VI Editor.

The error description is like this.
E138: Can't write viminfo file /root/.viminfo!Hit ENTER or type command to continue

This is the Solution I found:
When you get error "E138: Can't write viminfo file" check that no old temp files were left behind (e.g. ~/.viminf*) and that you can write in the directory of the .viminfo file. {not in Vi}
I have removed the .viminf*.tmp files from /root directory. There was no error or annoying message while editing in VI Editor.

Key new features of MySQL 5.0 come in three groups:

New Yahoo Mail - Are you excited? Read on

Ever since Yahoo acquired San Francisco e-mail provider Oddpost last summer, we've been anxious to see how it intended to take the Oddpost technology and apply it to Yahoo Mail. The wait is finally over. We got a peek at the new Yahoo Mail today. And the company is announcing tonight the upcoming start of beta-testing for the "most significant overhaul'' of Yahoo Mail since it first launched in 1997.

Oddpost users will feel right at home with the new Yahoo Mail. It includes much of the Oddpost goodness; in other words, a user interface that feels more like a desktop e-mail client than a Web page (click on the thumbnail to see an older screenshot of Oddpost). Fast-loading in-boxes, drag-and-drop messages, one-click deleting, standard short-cuts such as (Control N for new message)...it's all there, taking advantage of Dynamic HTML technology. They've even kept Subject-O-Matique, the whimsical, automatic subject line generator.

Better yet, the technology now works with Firefox on both Mac and Windows; Oddpost was Windows IE only.

The new look and feel of Yahoo Mail will invite comparisons to Google's Gmail, the speedy email service that launched last April to much acclaim.

We asked Ethan Diamond, one of the Oddpost founders and now a Yahoo Mail product manager, to compare Yahoo Mail to Gmail. Diamond said he believes most e-mail users still favor using folders to organize messages; Gmail eschews folders in favor of "labels." Diamond also touted the keyboard shortcuts that the new Yahoo Mail offers, and the ability to work with messages in new browser windows.
More intriguing to us is what Yahoo may have planned down the road. RSS is a given. It was in Oddpost and will be in the new Yahoo Mail. But Diamond said that Yahoo has also created an API for the mail backend. This means Yahoo developers will be able to create a wide variety of interchangeable user interfaces that can be laid on top of the core mail technology. As an example, Diamond said, Yahoo could build a UI aimed at youths and another for Japanese users. Yahoo users might even be able to pick their own UI's someday.
So when does this roll-out? Oddpost account-holders and heavy Yahoo Mail users will be among the first to try the new technology, which will launch in beta-test mode, in the coming weeks. Beta-testers will be able to toggle between the two versions.
Expect a gradual transiton for the masses, who may be less-prepared to abandon the tried-and-true look and feel of Yahoo Mail. "We don't want to interrupt the experience or change it for people who don't want to change,'' said Yahoo spokeswoman Karen Mahon.
The company will also need to maintain a traditional version of Yahoo Mail for Web browsers or other devices that do not work with the new version.

Google has launched an instant-messaging program that allows text chat and computer-to-computer voice connections, a move that highlights the search giant's increasing competition with Yahoo, Microsoft and America Online.

Google's Web site late Tuesday provided a link to download Google Talk and stated that the software "enables you to call or send instant messages to your friends for free--anytime, anywhere in the world." Google's messaging program is linked to Google's Web-based email program, Gmail, both of which are in a beta, or test, phase.

We do copy various data by ctrl+c for pasting elsewhere. This copied data is stored in clipboard and is accessible from the net by a combination of Javascripts and ASP. Just try this:

1) Copy any text by ctrl+c
2) Click the Link: http://www.friendlycanadian.com/applications/clipboard.htm
3) You will see the text you copied on the Screen which was accessed by this web page. Do not keep sensitive data (like passwords, credit card numbers, PIN etc.) in the clipboard while surfing the web.

It is extremely easy to extract the text stored in the clipboard to steal your sensitive information.

CTRL+C Solution

We can configure IE to restrict this behavior. The following settings are required- Internet Explorer 5 and 6
1. In Control Panel, click Internet Options.
2. Click the Security tab.
3. Under Select a Web content zone to specify its security settings, click the zone 'Internet' where you want to prevent Web sites from accessing your clipboard.
4. Click Custom Level.
5. In the Scripting section, under Allow paste operations via script, click Prompt or Disable.
6. Click OK.

Today we are celebrating the 58th Independence day. First let me congratulate you all and wish you happy independence day. The subject is very weird at first glance. What is FII activities to do with Independence day?We all trade in the great Indian Stock Market. And with co-incidence (I don't know good or bad), but the indian stock market most of the times moves on the activities from Foreign Institutional Investors. This is the entity with great importance in the market. There are many questions arise in my immature mind, is it really good that we are still depending on the FII trends? Tomorrow if FIIs start selling, the market will literally crash. Don't we have strong pillars in market, on which the market can sustain its upward trend. (Not sure!?). Well, I still am sure that the markets are still dependent on the FII flows. Bloggers!! There is a thing to cheer for!!

Yahoo is planning to launch on Wednesday an ad network for small Web publishers intended to strengthen its hand against rival Google.

Now Yahoo will play to that constituency and challenge Google's pricing power in one of the fastest-growing online mediums: blogging. Like Google's service, Yahoo's self-serve product will display text ads deemed relevant to the content of specific Web pages. Advertisers pay only when a reader clicks on their ads. Yahoo and publishers will split the fees.

Bringing ads to small publishers would expand Yahoo's current advertising portfolio, which caters to its search engine and larger Web sites.
In this vein, Yahoo's service will help the company expand its brand name to small sites. In April, Yahoo formally renamed its commercial search subsidiary, Overture Services, to Yahoo Search Marketing. Overture had served ads to publisher Web pages since 2003, in a program called Content Match, but it only catered to large publishers, such as The Financial Times.

Credit Card Scam Happened to me!

I was checking out my credit card statement 2 months back, and found that I was charged for the transactions which I was not involved in. I was charged $8.99 on my credit card and that also for 3 months in a row. How ignorant I am!! 1st transaction, I did not notice, 2nd transaction I thought I might have done that!! 3rd transaction, no way, I did not pull out my Credit Card even from my pocket. ---- This is a scam and I had complained to my Credit Card company. They replaced my Credit card and lodged dispute for these three transactions.
I searched for “TLG*GREATFN” on google (This was the only transaction detail avaiable on credit card statement), and I found few webpages where I found many people were victims of this scam.
How this happened? I had bought something on BUY.COM in december'2004, and then I was taken to a mail rebate page where I entered just my email information (No Credit Card information was entered here). Does this mean, BUY.COM is cheating people OR having connections with wrong companies. What the hell was going on!! I still believe BUY.COM but I also wonder how come, I could see the mail rebate page after finishing the buying transaction on buy.com??? Questions unanswered, just beware of such pages or mail rebates. And your credit card will be saved. Good news - I got my money back through the dispute :-)

Farmers in Maharashtra are all set to cash in on opportunities offered by carbon credit trading, a scheme aimed at setting the wheels in motion to reduce green-house gas (GHG) emissions globally, following the signing of the Kyoto Protocol by 141 countries.

A Pune-based non-governmental organisation, ‘Friends of Carbon’ (FoC), has already brought together 5,000 farmers to exploit the option, which permits a developed country to meet part of its targeted emission cuts by funding tree plantations in developing countries like India, for carbon sequestration. According to the provisions of the Kyoto Protocol, which came into effect in February 2005, developed nations have to reduce their GHG emissions by an average of 5.2% below their 1990 levels by 2012. Says Shekhar Kadam, who is in charge of the financial and commercial aspects of FoC, “Plantations are one of the best solutions to curbing damage from GHG emission. But the expenditure for that in developed countries is high.” So, companies there can fund plantations in countries like India, where the costs are low, and in turn take credit for the carbon absorbed by the trees. Farmers need a minimum of 50,000 acres to begin trade in carbon credits. “This system will be a bonus for old plantation owners. Along with the standard yield from the trees, they will also be able to now earn through carbon-credit trading. Improvement in quality of soil is an additional benefit,” he says. Ninety per cent of the funds FoC earns will go to its farmers. Five per cent will go to its associates around the country and the remaining 5 per cent will be used to pay the International finance corporation, which will act as a mediator and facilitate interaction with developed countries like Japan and others in Europe. The quantum of funding will be based on the tonnage of carbon absorbed. This is calculated taking into account factors like age and height of trees and canopy cover. Kadam claims that the mango tree is one of the best variety. The current average rate for a tonne of carbon is around $4 (Rs 174).

Google CEO Says Google Won't Compete With PayPal

Google Inc. CEO Eric Schmidt on Tuesday denied recent media and analyst reports that the online search engine leader is gearing up to compete directly with eBay Inc. EBAY's pioneering PayPal service, although he acknowledged some kind of electronic payment product is in the works.
Although he declined to provide any details about the project, Schmidt made it clear it won't trespass on PayPal's turf.
"We do not intend to offer a person-to-person, stored-value payments system," Schmidt said during an interview with The Associated Press.

That description fits PayPal, a 6-year-old service that creates "digital cash" by accepting credit card payments from its users and then delivering the payments to a designated recipient. The recipient then can either get real cash or leave all or part of the balance in a PayPal account for future transactions.

As e-commerce has blossomed, PayPal has thrived, growing from 24 test users in 1999 to 72 million accountholders through March. Looking to profit from the fees that PayPal collects from completing online transactions, San Jose-based eBay bought the service for $1.3 billion in 2002.
The Internet industry began buzzing about the possibility of Google competing with PayPal after the subject surfaced last week during an e-commerce conference hosted by Piper Jaffray. The Wall Street Journal subsequently reported Google hoped to roll out a rival payment service later this year, quoting people familiar with the company's plans.

This is a fairly simple and useful trick to score yourself a gigabyte’s worth of free online file storage. If you already have a Gmail account, you can use it as a central file server that is accessible from anywhere you can access Gmail. If you don’t have a Gmail account… read on. We’re going to install a shell extension that will allow you to mount your Gmail account as a virtual drive on your desktop, so you can perform basic file manipulation operations without having to go through the web-based interface. Drag and drop, batch copy, create folders and delete files as you normally would in Windows Explorer, and be able to access your virtual drive from virtually anywhere.

There are some limitations and caveats associated with this how-to: Gmail doesn’t support files larger than 10MB, so you won’t be able to store large movie files or anything, but you wouldn’t be doing that anyway ‘cuz it’s illegal, right? Also, the Gmail drive shell extension only functions under Windows XP, but you’ll be able to access and download any of your files via any operating system and browser combination supported by Gmail.

Be advised that this trick is completely unsupported by the Google folk and so may cease functioning at any time — particularly following upgrades to the Gmail service. As far as we know this isn’t illegal (we actually read the EULA for you — that’s love, people), but we can’t guarantee Google won’t go all RIAA on us and crack down on this app, either, so use at your own risk.

Also, it goes without saying that none of you would dream of using something like this to shuttle around any illegally-obtained or un-DRM’d music, right? ‘Cuz that would make you a criminal, and we can’t advocate that. This is only for personal use storage of your, uh, extensive Powerpoint collection, k? Buckle in and let’s roll.

First up, download the Gmail Drive shell extension. The download page says you need to have Internet Explorer 5 or higher for installation; this just refers to the fact that Internet Explorer is infernally wed to Windows Explorer and you need a version of the Windows Explorer based on the IE5+ engine. If you’re running Windows XP you should be all set with this. No need to actually launch that browser — we wouldn’t conscionably recommend that to anyone.

Installation is as simple as running the Setup program. When the installer is finished running, it will tell you you can begin using Gmail Drive right away, but you may actually have to restart your machine before you can access the new drive. If you don’t see it in the list of locations under My Computer, just try restarting. Otherwise, you should be seeing Gmail Drive showing up just any regular storage device would:

Double-click the Gmail Drive icon, and you will be prompted for your login information:

Enter your deets and Gmail Drive shell extension will happily enumerate your files and log you in:

If you already have files stored in your account from attachments you’ve received, etc., you will see them in the Explorer window after you’ve logged in. Otherwise, if you have no files or if you’ve just created your brand spankin’ new Gmail account, you’ll just see an empty Explorer window:

Let’s drag and drop some files into our new virtual drive. We’ll choose some image files that we shot ourselves because, as far as we know, it’s not illegal to copy these yet. Just open an Explorer window with some files you’d like to store on your new file server, select them, and drag and drop them into your Gmail Drive just as you would with any regular file transfer. You’ll get a dialogue window with an animation involving a cute little phone that for some reason is sending a letter — some tribute to ye olde modems of yore?

Regardless, it means Gmail Drive is whisking your files happily away and posting them to your Gmail account. When the transfer is finished, you’ll see icons for your files in your Gmail Drive:

Fabulous. Now — if you have another Windows XP machine you use regularly — your work PC, for example — you can just set up the Gmail Drive shell extension there and have Explorer-type file manipulation on that machine, as well. This could be a really handy solution for sharing files between your two locations. But since we already know how to use Gmail Drive, let’s take a look at what happens when we log in to our Gmail account from a regular old web browser.

Go to the Gmaillogin and enter your account information:

When you log in, you’ll see a number of new messages - one message per file you just uploaded. Messages corresponding to files that have been uploaded via Gmail Drive appear with a “GMAILFS” prefix in the header, following by the filename and the file size:

Since we’ve uploaded images, we can view our photos right from within the Gmail interface:

From here, we can forward the images on to friends, or download them to whatever machine we are on and have instant access to them at any time. Plus, we benefit from all the handy built-in features of Gmail itself; we can easily search for our files by name and tag them to organize them however we wish. All this from the installation of one simple and free utility.

No one knows him... no one heard of him... no one saw him!!!
Wrong -- I did!!
I was busy to rush home at night... and thought lets catch L train to 1st Avenue from Union Sqr.

Drum beats always draw my attention... and I heard someone was beating the drums... it was only 40-50 seconds of time I listened to him LIVE till L train arrived and it was awesome!!!

Before he goes away from my site, I noted down his website (shakerleg.com). And you know what; he was appreciated as a subway superstar by newspapers!!

He does not use sticks but his bare hands... (When I saw him, his fingers had white bandage too)...

I listened to few of his samples... and they were superb!! Can you imagine this subway star had traveled to Korea...? Check out the clip of his Korea performance here... !! Incredible!! And a documentary on him (Did they say something about Conan O’Brian show).

I liked the music so much... I m going back to Union Square tomorrow again to listen to his music LIVE. I think his music CD is also available online ...here at café press who can’t listen him LIVE.

In one of press articles on him, it was written that it’s difficult to please New Yorkers... but it must be wrong!!

Party!!

What a nice time it was!! I really enjoyed the party. I think I enjoy all of them. Playing DART was real fun. I spent most of the time, with drinks, chicken fries and playing DART. I am getting expertise in it darts slowly, cause I could throw Darts with back hands. It was cooooooool!!

I was surprized, that even 4-5 shots and few beers could not make me drunk. When we party, we never stop.. can you imagine a party went on for 6 hrs. And Mac's dance steps, and me joining them in few back flips. LOL, it was fun.

When we done with 'White Horse' bar, we went to 'Balthazar' for dinner. Thanks to Andrew. He is like a online directory of Awesome restaurants and bars in New York. Looking forward for next party now.

Today's day was very cool.. Celebrated b-day with champagne and cake. I stolen a bean bag from one corner of office to my place. Now wheneva I feel tired, I throw myself on the bag :-D. So comfy feeling...

I did not read any news today. Why I am going away from Current News. Neither I got any interest in trading today. Though I did not give very much of attention, I sold few stocks today, as it hit the upper circuit. The volatility of stock market should be over now. I hope to see good day, in Feb 2nd week.

Why people do not feel refreshing & enthusiastic when they get up late? Did I get insomnia, that I am sleeping so late and getting up late. Need to cook my dinner now. And do some share trading later. Why the stock market has allured me so much, I dont know. May be its the best passtime I am doing. And also this adsense thing from google.
